Homann Holzwerkstoffe Set to Launch Production in Lithuania After Overcoming Delays

Homann Holzwerkstoffe’s Lithuanian Plant Nears Operational Launch

Homann Holzwerkstoffe GmbH, a leading European manufacturer of thin, refined wood fiberboards, is poised to commence operations at its new medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and high-density fiberboard (HDF) production facility near Vilnius, Lithuania. This strategic expansion aims to bolster the company’s production capacity and enhance its presence in the European market.

Strategic Expansion in Lithuania

In October 2020, Homann Holzwerkstoffe acquired a 77-hectare industrial site near Vilnius, marking a significant step in its European growth strategy. The new plant is designed to produce HDF and MDF boards up to 22 mm in thickness, aligning with the company’s existing product range. The facility also includes extensive finishing capabilities to meet diverse market demands.

Overcoming Operational Delays

The initial plan projected the plant’s operational launch in 2022; however, unforeseen technical challenges and permitting issues led to delays. In March 2024, the company announced a postponement, citing the need for more robust environmental permits to ensure economically viable and competitive production.

Securing Necessary Permits

As of February 2025, Homann Holzwerkstoffe has obtained all required permits, paving the way for the plant’s operational readiness. Fritz Homann, Managing Director, emphasized the facility’s integral role in the company’s long-term expansion strategy.

Anticipated Operational Launch

With regulatory approvals secured, the Lithuanian plant is set to begin production imminently. This development underscores Homann Holzwerkstoffe’s commitment to enhancing its production capabilities and solidifying its position in the European wood products industry.

The new facility is expected to contribute significantly to the company’s growth, enabling it to better serve existing markets and explore new opportunities within the region.
